Q: How did you get involved in photography and filmmaking?

A: I am interested in the idea of capturing the marvels of daily life, in creating an archive that would outlast ecological changes and act as a memoir of the streets of Egypt. The place and its inhabitants that feature as my artistic subjects are preserved forever in a photograph. They inspire me, and I want my compositions to portray their uniqueness. With my work, I try to express my innermost, abstract preoccupations that can't be put into words. That compels me to continue this exploration through photography and filmmaking.

Q:As a student and upcoming photographer, you have succeeded to depict documentary realism in your photographs. Is that where your practices are headed? Or you wish to explore any other photography styles? Why?

A:I believe that if you want to master a specific domain, you need to keep an open mind and learn continuously from other disciplines. I started with street photography, but eventually became interested in other genres like documentary photography, fashion photography and war photography as well. The wide range of experimentation drives me to create a personal version of storytelling in my compositions.

Q:It is quite interesting to see how you capture the ordinary around you to reveal a deeper story, how do you choose subjects for your photographs? What is it that you wish to achieve through your photographs?

A:My pictures are a representation of my own understanding of and love for the distinctive Egyptian heritage. It inspires me to travel routinely and instinctively capture things that catch my eye. But it is artistic as much as it is photojournalistic, I am also interested in creating an identifiable visual aesthetic. I try, through my photos and videos, to document everyday life through the eyes of one of the people in the streets of Egypt. I am endlessly fascinated by the treasures our streets have to offer.
